Hi Geoff,
So this material is a reproduction of the original fiberglass material used by American Auto Makers in the 50's - 80's. It does have a denser or "tougher" side to it as original to add strength. I have used this on a few of my old Caddy's and it has help up very nicely over the years. That being said, if originality is not a big concern I am sure there are more modern materials that will not only last longer but also have better insulation properties. This particular material is a restoration product so it is designed to be a reproduction of the original fiberglass material which was technology of the 50's etc.
I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
Robert
